TESTIMONIALS
As a student of Sarah and Ty’s since 2010, I have had the good fortune to attend several trainings and retreats through IYI. Each one significant and transformative; driving my personal and spiritual exploration and growth as a teacher and practitioner. The supportive container created by fellow retreaters and Sarah and Ty facilitates authentic, deep work. I always leave with more courage and trust in my heart. I am forever grateful.
— Elissa B.
Sarah & Ty Powers are both inspiring and motivational teachers. They have a lot of knowledge and wisdom and they teach with great compassion. I hope to be able to empower my students the same way they did for me.
— Nathalie B.
This was my first training with Sarah and I can say from the heart that it provided the best education of my life in terms of its usefulness within my own practice. I learned ways to traverse thoughts that were plaguing me since childhood—it was a very powerful and potent experience and I highly recommend this training. I look forward to the next one.
— Jessica de la T.
ABOUT THE INSIGHT YOGA INSTITUTE
Sarah and Ty Powers created the Insight Yoga Institute (IYI) in 2010. Having both interwoven Yoga, Buddhism and Psychological approaches for three decades in their retreats and trainings, they decided to create a more formal umbrella to draw people together in a like-minded community. Of particular interest to Sarah and Ty is that participants learn how to commit to an integrated daily home practice for the body, heart and mind through yogic, Buddhist and psychological teachings and methods.

Event Details
Located just 75 minutes from Milan Malpensa airport, our centre sits high on a hilltop with sweeping views of Lake Orta and the Swiss alps. Mother nature embraces our guests with the majestic sunrises, gorgeous hiking trails and raw beauty. A truly idyllic setting to find calm and clarity in the mind and body.
Course Description
The ability to gather together and be with teachings and practices, silence, nature and each other quietly is a great privilege and something many of us have been without for far too long. We are looking forward to welcoming each of you.
We will practice many sessions of meditation coupled with Yin and Yang Yoga, time for hiking and swimming, sauna and massage, partner inquiry sessions, gourmet plant based meals (with some dairy options), as well as private and small group sessions with Sarah or Ty for each participant.
The teachings will emphasize the heart opening methods inspired by the 7 points of Mind Training taught by Atisha, an 11th century Indian Yogi who spent his later years transforming the Tibetan Buddhist views on compassion and awareness as lived in everyday life. These down to earth teachings have been widely followed for centuries, earning Atisha at the time the nickname ’Sublime teacher of impulsive behavior and its results.’
In advance of the retreat, you may enjoy reading, Always Maintain A Joyful Mind by Pema Chodron, Sarah’s second book Lit From Withinas well as viewing Sarah’s teachings on Opening the Mind Lojong 1-6.
We look forward to each of you being able to drop in, open up, and dive deep as you ignite and reclaim the profound resources dwelling within you.
Please note that participation in this retreat requires prior experience attending a Silent Retreat or previous consistent practice with Sarah and Ty.

Course Description:
This course is intended to deepen one’s understanding of the experiential, philosophical and practical application of Yin yoga and meditation. It is intended for those with at least a couple of years of practice or more, and is an essential part of a larger, 500 YA hour training in Insight Yoga.
This intensive will augment one’s ability to teach both a receptive Yin style that focuses on a contemplative inner environment related to meridian health, particularly as it relates with emotional explorations and integration. Sarah will also unpack the basics of the Four Applications of Buddhist Mindfulness meditation both as a seated daily practice, and an inner focus for Yin classes. Please come with a basic understanding of the practices having read Sarah’s book Insight Yoga, and a strong interest in committing to the further exploration of these nourishing aspects of yogic living.
About Sarah Powers:
Sarah Powers is the co-founder of the Insight Yoga Institute as well as the author of Insight Yoga and Lit from Within, which interweaves Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and Transpersonal psychology into an integrated practice to enliven the body, heart, and mind. Sarah has been teaching for 30+ years, blending both a Yin sequence of long-held floor poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems while often engaging in inquiry practice, with a mindfully based flow yoga practice. Sarah is trained in both Psychosynthesis and the Internal Family Systems psychological models, and has been a student of spiritual psychology for over 35 years. She draws from her education and participation in long retreats in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism.
In this training we will explore:
• Yin Yoga- how, why and when to practice this style safely and effectively
• Organ health and Yoga practice (sequences for the kidneys, liver, Spleen, Lungs and Heart)
• Mindfulness in asana
• How to assist those with injuries in Yin postures
• Skillful verbal communication
• Committing to a personal practice.
Philosophy:
• Subtle body anatomy according to Yogic and Chinese philosophy
• Meridian theory and Chinese Medicine
• Buddhist Psychology and emotional maturity
Pranayama:
Pranayama is the expansion of the life force through breath regulation. It is the profound practice of circulating and redistributing prana in both the physical and subtle body through various breathing and visualization practices.
- Overview of the Nine Clearing Rounds Daily Pranayama Practice
- Exploring Pranayama in Yin Yoga
Mindfulness Meditation:
The essence of a committed yoga practice is meditative focus and awareness. Developing and sustaining a formal meditation practice can be a continual source of insight, rejuvenation and compassion. Meditation practice begins with stabilizing our attention in a relaxed yet vivid way. This practice is called Shamatha. As one’s concentration develops, we can begin to inquire into the nature of our experience and our own minds. This is the practice of Vipassana, or clear seeing. As teachers, developing attentional balance and self-inquiry not only amplifies our capacity to teach from our own experiential insights, but allows others to feel safe and inspired to deepen their own inner journey in our company. We will discuss and develop Buddhist Mindfulness meditation (Sati Patthana–The Four Foundations of Mindfulness), with an emphasis on how to share these practices with others.
Course Includes:
Each day will include 2 hours on Yin Yoga and 2 hours on Mindfulness Meditation
Required reading
1. Insight Yoga by Sarah Powers
2. Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley
3. Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Gunaratana;
Note: After attending this course and writing a 1-2 page paper, participants will receive a 20-hour certificate of completion which can be used toward Insight Yoga certification and/or Yoga Alliance certification.

Yoga can be understood as a set of behaviours that encourage a holistic experience of the body, heart and mind. It is a process of fully inhabiting ourselves. Mindfulness is an attitude we adopt in which we let go of all motivations to manipulate the moment and develop the capacity to observe without willful interference. When we include both in our practice, we learn to easily come home to our bodies and minds, regardless of what is happening in us or to us, opening us freshly to an authentic intimacy with our lives and ourselves.
This weekend intensive will incorporate Sarah Powers’ unique approach: a practice of passive Yin poses balanced by an active or Yang flow practice, followed by Mindfulness meditation, dedicating an hour of this three hour a day workshop to each theme.
Taking time away from our busy schedules to come to a yoga and mindfulness intensive can realign our clarity of mind and ease of being, leaving us refreshed and inwardly connected.
The Saturday workshop will focus on a Kidney Yin Yoga Session, a slow flow practice of backbends, and the first two foundations of Mindfulness Meditation, the body and feelings.
The Sunday workshop will bring attention to the Liver and Spleen in a Yin Yoga session and Standing Poses with Inversions, as well as the third and fourth foundations of Mindfulness: the mind and phenomenon.
Both for those with some Yin yoga and Mindfulness experience (at least one year), and more seasoned practitioners.

Take a meaningful pause with Sarah and Ty Powers (founders of the Insight Yoga Institute) for an online Practice DAYLONG in the comfort of your own space to deepen your practice.
Experience a blend of mindfulness, yoga, and psychological exploration to rejuvenate your body-mind connection. Engage in meditative practices, yin and yang yoga, personal reflection and inquiry sessions. Embrace mindfulness to observe without interference and gain insights into yourself and your relationships.
This nourishing DAYLONG practice is designed to develop and recharge your body-mind integration—it includes 4 sessions of meditation, coupled with yin and yang yoga, and some time for reflection and contemplation.
This day-long retreat weaves together three key elements:
Mindfulness is an attitude we adopt in which we let go of all motivations to manipulate the moment and develop the capacity to observe without willful interference.
Yoga is a set of behaviors that encourages a holistic experience of the body, heart, and mind—a process of fully inhabiting ourselves.
Psychological inquiry– receptive states of body-mind awareness that allows us to capture and refine insights into ourselves and our relationships.
When you include all three elements in your practice on a regular basis, you learn to more easily come home to your direct experience in a creative and fresh way.
This retreat is ideal for anyone seeking:
A simple, grounded way to deepen their practice from home
Practices to enhance emotional well-being and restore inner calm
A space for reflection, self-discovery, and reconnection with your inner self.
This is a gentle and accessible way to commit to your inner life—no travel needed, just a quiet corner, your mat, and an open heart. You’ll be invited to pause amidst the busyness of life, creating space to step back and view your experience from a wider perspective—reconnecting with yourself and your life with greater clarity, compassion, and joy.
The space-setting guideline will be shared 10 days before the day-long retreat started.
Date:
February 28, 2026 | 10:00–13:00 & 15:00–17:30 GMT
Note: For those joining from the U.S. or other time zones, you’re welcome to use the morning session recording as your first session, and join the second session live.

Join us at this serene retreat centre nestled in the beautiful countryside of south-west France, near Bordeaux, on the outskirts of a small charming French village . The Moulin offers a peaceful environment, surrounded by rolling hills, lush gardens, and a tranquil river running through the property. The beautiful grounds feature quiet walking paths, inviting spaces for reflection, and cosy nooks to relax and rejuvenate. The warm, inviting accommodations and nourishing meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients will support our time together.
Course Description
The ability to gather together and deepen our practices, connection with silence, love of nature and quietly feel others dedication around us is a great privilege and something many of us have been without for far too long, or know we need on a regular basis.
In this 5 day retreat in June 2026 Sarah and Ty will include ample time to enjoy the silence around and within yourself. With many sessions a day of Yin and Yang Yoga and seated Buddhist meditation, brief talks and descriptions of meditative methods; you will enjoy a realm of dropping into the dimensions of experience often missed in our everyday practices. When practitioners have received many teachings and methods already, it is In extended silent retreating (with brief cues given by the teachers) that one can truly absorb and integrate the penetrating truths about one’s self and existence.
Prerequisite–Since there will be even more silent practices than in most retreats, we ask that you have already attended a silent Buddhist retreat before coming to this one.
To support each practitioner, Sarah and Ty will also be offering half hour private meetings for those interested.
In advance of the retreat, you may enjoy reading, Always Maintain A Joyful Mind by Pema Chodron, Sarah’s second book Lit From Within as well as viewing Sarah’s teachings on Opening the Mind Lojong 1-6.
We look forward to each of you being able to drop in, open up, and dive deep as you ignite and reclaim the profound resources dwelling within you.

Insight/Yin Yoga Training: Brightening the Inner Body
Secondary Level with Sarah and Ty Powers in Portugal
Drawing from Sarah’s book Lit From Within, this retreat includes teachings and practices for developing and integrating the energetic, psychological, and meditative domains within us.
Prerequisite: Please come having attended a foundational Yin Yoga training from a dedicated teacher. We consider this a Secondary Level training.
Upcoming 2024 Primary Level trainings with Sarah:
- March 20-27, 2024 – Radiantly Alive, Ubud, Bali – Insight Yoga Teacher Training Intensive Primary Level with Sarah Powers
In order to receive the YA 40 hour Certificate of Completion, attendance in the entire program is required along with a brief essay sharing your experiences with the material.
Course Description:
After we have established a clear understanding of how and why to practice Yin yoga (studied in the Primary Level training), we can begin to look more closely at the pranic and mind training aspects available to us while in the practices, the inner methods of Yin Yoga. In this course, we will NOT focus on where the meridians flow in each pose and how to get into the shapes safely, (assuming you already know these things), INSTEAD we will explore the contemplative inner experiences that are available in each pose. Sarah will teach various breath patterns and retentions, visualisations for the health of the organs, contemplations in the poses, as well as the essential themes and practices of a Buddhist view for Yin Yoga.
Each day will include a talk, yin yoga session with inner practices emphasized, seated meditation practices led by both Sarah and Ty, as well as interactive diads and discussion time. In this retreat setting, time for individual asana practice, swimming, and resting will also be included.
Study and Reading:
- Students will be provided a reading list to enjoy prior to attending the retreat.
- A training manual will be handed out on the first day of class.
