Mandali Silent Retreat – Fully booked
Join us in the beautiful Lake region of Northern Italy.
Mandali is situated at 850 metres above sea level, high on a hill with a stunning view of the lake. All the rooms are beautifully designed to provide comfort, privacy and relaxation. Every room features an en-suite shower and toilet.
Mandali’s kitchen will provide three vegetarian meals per day, prepared with the best selection of organic fresh and local ingredients. Each meal is served buffet style. They will also be able to cater for special dietary needs such as vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free, providing balanced alternative menus (you will be asked to provide dietary information as part of your registration process). There will be filtered water, tea, and fresh fruit available all day, every day.
Course Description
The ability to gather together and be with teachings and practices, silence, nature and each other quietly is a great privilege and something many of us have been without for far too long. We are looking forward to welcoming each of you.
We will practice many sessions of meditation coupled with Yin and Yang Yoga, time for hiking and swimming, sauna and massage, partner inquiry sessions, gourmet plant based meals (with some dairy options), as well as private and small group sessions with Sarah or Ty for each participant.
The teachings will emphasize the heart opening methods inspired by the 7 points of Mind Training taught by Atisha, an 11th century Indian Yogi who spent his later years transforming the Tibetan Buddhist views on compassion and awareness as lived in everyday life. These down to earth teachings have been widely followed for centuries, earning Atisha at the time the nickname ’Sublime teacher of impulsive behavior and its results.’
In advance of the retreat, you may enjoy reading, Always Maintain A Joyful Mind by Pema Chodron, Sarah’s new book Lit From Within as well as viewing Sarah’s teachings on Opening the Mind Lojong 1-6.
We look forward to each of you being able to drop in, open up, and dive deep as you ignite and reclaim the profound resources dwelling within you.

Insight/Yin Yoga Training: Brightening the Inner Body
Secondary Level with Sarah and Ty Powers in Thailand
Drawing from Sarah’s book Lit From Within, this retreat includes teachings and practices for developing and integrating the energetic, psychological, and meditative domains within us.
Prerequisite: Please come having attended a foundational Yin Yoga training from a dedicated teacher. We consider this a Secondary Level training.
Upcoming 2023 Primary Level trainings with Sarah:
- July 29-Aug 5 in DC US
- Nov 18-25 in Shanghai and ONLINE with Chinese translation
In order to receive the YA 40 hour Certificate of Completion, attendance in the entire program is required along with a brief essay sharing your experiences with the material.
Course Description:
After we have established a clear understanding of how and why to practice Yin yoga (studied in the Primary Level training), we can begin to look more closely at the pranic and mind training aspects available to us while in the practices, the inner methods of Yin Yoga. In this course, we will NOT focus on where the meridians flow in each pose and how to get into the shapes safely, (assuming you already know these things), INSTEAD we will explore the contemplative inner experiences that are available in each pose. Sarah will teach various breath patterns and retentions, visualisations for the health of the organs, contemplations in the poses, as well as the essential themes and practices of a Buddhist view for Yin Yoga.
Each day will include a talk, yin yoga session with inner practices emphasized, seated meditation practices led by both Sarah and Ty, as well as interactive diads and discussion time. In this retreat setting, time for individual asana practice, swimming, and resting will also be included.
Study and Reading:
Students will be provided a reading list to enjoy prior to attending the retreat.
A training manual will be handed out on the first day of class.

Yin/Insight Yoga: Mingling Yoga/Psychology/Buddhism
Yin /Yang Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation
A 2-day workshop with Sarah Powers
Saturday morning we will explore the value of interweaving Yin/Yang practices on the body, with a focus on developing our earth chi, engendering strength and stability in the lower body. We will also focus on yin poses specifically helpful for our digestive organs, the stomach and spleen. We will also explore the Buddhist discipline of Mindfulness in the body as an attitude of kind, clear attention.
Saturday afternoon, Sarah will emphasize the cultivation of the subtle body both in a Yin yoga practice (focusing on poses to support our personal health and immunity through nourishing the Kidney channels), and in the seated position through pranayama. We will also explore how to envision living our lives with an abundance of loving-kindness with the practice of Maitri in a guided visualization.
Sunday morning Sarah will emphasize the idea of Compassion, exploring ways we might practice the art of moving toward rather than away from that which we usually seek to avoid, learning to loosen our self grasping tendencies while softening our patterns of resistance. When we bring compassion (karuna) toward our habits of aversion, we cultivate the capacity to meet all of life wholeheartedly. We will also practice backbends in both Yin and Yang ways (receptive and active) opening the chest area both energetically and physically, while focusing on the liver channels as well. A seated meditation practice will be offered as well.
This workshop is suitable for anyone with at least one year experience in yoga with some understanding of the Yin practice, either through reading Insight Yoga , going to a few yin yoga classes, or having seen Sarah’s videos or online material.
Sarah Powers is the co-founder of the Insight Yoga Institute as well as the author of Insight Yoga and Lit from Within, which interweaves Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and Transpersonal psychology into an integrated practice to enliven the body, heart, and mind. Sarah has been teaching for 30+ years, blending both a Yin sequence of long-held floor poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems while often engaging in inquiry practice, with a mindfully-based flow yoga practice. Sarah is trained in both Psychosynthesis and the Internal Family Systems (IFS) psychological models. She has been a student of spiritual psychology for over 35 years. She draws from her education and participation in long retreats in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism.
